Episode eight. Hardware, devices, and printing. Codeblix runs on a mini PC inside the restaurant. Restaurant Status is its live view, and the local server is online. Tablets, kitchen screens and printers talk to this server over the restaurant's own network, so service doesn't depend on the internet. Each device sends a heartbeat. After ninety seconds without one, it shows as offline. Backup readiness shows the local backup, and the off-site copy, which needs the internet. Every till and waiter tablet has its own entry in POS and Tablet Devices. Click New terminal, then give the device a name and a short code. Choose its connection method. For a Wi-Fi or Ethernet printer, the mini PC print agent sends the job. Enter the printer's IP address. Port 9100 suits most network thermal printers, on 80 millimetre paper. With a direct USB printer, the connected cash drawer can open for cash payments. Back to the network printer, and save the device. Kitchen and bar printers belong to the four stations, in Kitchen Routing and Printers. Edit a station to choose KDS only, or a network printer through the print agent, with its IP address and port. Tickets wait in a queue on the server. If a print might have reached paper without confirmation, it's flagged for staff to check, never reprinted on its own. Diagnostics opens Hardware Tests: the receipt printer, cash drawer and scanners, with a test print and a drawer kick once a terminal is set up. If a tablet loses its connection mid-service, the sale stays on the device. The Sync log shows it arriving once it syncs, with any conflicts. Backup and Restore runs automatic backups, here daily at 2 AM, kept for thirty days, and can email a copy. Existing backups are listed newest first. A restore replaces all current data, so it's for recovery only. Next: procurement. Suppliers, purchase orders, and receiving.
