How to Value a New Online Business Product

How to assess a developed digital product when it has source code and brand assets but no established traffic or revenue.

A newly created online business product should not be valued with a revenue multiple. Evaluate the cost and quality of the assets you receive, the development time they replace, the defensibility of the concept and the work still required to reach customers.

Separate asset value from operating value

Source code, design systems, domains, content and documentation have replacement value. Customers, contracts, verified traffic and recurring revenue have operating value. Never assume the second category exists because the first looks polished.

Calculate the remaining work

List integrations, compliance, market-specific changes, hosting and support processes that remain. A sensible price reflects both what is complete and what the buyer must still fund.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a revenue multiple without revenue?

No. Use replacement cost, product quality, transfer scope and remaining work instead.

Does a domain automatically add high value?

No. Domain value depends on clarity, relevance, transferability and real market demand.
