Starting a business in Mauritius means dealing with several acronyms. Here is what they mean.

BRN (Business Registration Number)

The BRN is your company's unique identifier. Issued by the Registrar of Companies when you incorporate.

TAN (Tax Account Number)

The TAN is your unique identifier with the Mauritius Revenue Authority. Issued when you register for tax.

VAT

VAT (Value Added Tax) is a 15% consumption tax. You must register for VAT if your annual turnover exceeds MUR 6 million.

NPS, NSF, PAYE, CSG

These are employee-related contributions. NPS is the National Pension Scheme. NSF is the National Savings Fund. PAYE is Pay As You Earn (income tax). CSG is the Contribution Sociale Généralisée.
